Soil and grass are different materials, yet deeply connected to human life. Please come and see the overlapping spaces of expression created by their hands.
Born as the fourth generation of a potter in Seto, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. After studying ceramic techniques in Seto, built his own kiln in Seto/Hayashino. Later moved to Okayama Prefecture and continued to make pottery. He uses both a potter's wheel and a mould, and after firing, he uses a technique where natural colour is impregnated into the nuki (penetration) with tochishibu (a type of astringent woodchip).
Asami Sakaki Botanical Institute
Born in Shizuoka Prefecture, Sakaki Asami established the Asami Sakaki Botanical Institute in 2015 and is currently based in Suwa, Nagano Prefecture. She creates works and exhibitions that utilise plants, such as bonsai, wildflowers and grass ornaments. She continues to create works that are simple yet evoke the suppleness of nature and the workings of life, valuing the sense of finding beauty in "imperfection, distortion and gaps".
